COLLABORATION IS KEY INGREDIENT OF UPCOMING BLACK ECONOMIC SUMMIT

Carla Ladd, President
Denver, CO (BlackNews.com) - The DenverBlackPages.com, a Colorado-based African-American web portal, today announced the launch of the Mountain Region Black Economic Summit (MRBES), the first collaboration of its kind in this area. The two-day Summit will take place June 2-3, 2005, at the Holiday Inn Denver International Airport hotel. Invitees include black youth, professionals, business owners, and organization leaders from Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Texas, Kansas, Nevada, New Mexico, and Missouri.
The purpose of the MRBES is to solidify and establish unified relationships in the regional Black business community through collective economic empowerment. Participants will engage in numerous workshops and panel discussions focused on personal, business, youth, and community economic development. Confirmed speakers include George Fraser, author of the critically acclaimed Success Runs in Our Race and Race for Success, and Farrah Gray, the remarkable teenager who went from public assistance to a million dollar net worth - by the age of 14!
"We are excited to be collaborating with several community organizations such as the Colorado Black Chamber of Commerce and many others to produce this community-changing event," said Carla D. Ladd, President and Owner of the Denver Black Pages. "We are grateful for the critical support of the Cities of Aurora and Denver. Without their cooperation, a conference of this magnitude would not be possible."
Both Cities have expressed a vested interest in the concept and success of this first-of-its-kind event.
"The City of Denver is proud to be a supporting sponsor of the Mountain Region Black Economic Summit because small business development stimulates job creation, financial literacy, and entrepreneurial opportunities that lead to stronger and healthier communities," said Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper. "As a City, we strive to create opportunities for all and we are grateful to the Denver Black Pages for their partnership in this effort."
In his support of the conference, Aurora Mayor Ed Tauer notes, "In Aurora, we believe in strong community partnerships. This summit offers a wonderful opportunity for everyone in the community to come together to promote a common goal---economic and cultural prosperity.
One of several highlights of the MRBES is a Biz Makeover Contest in which one lucky small business will win a business makeover including a workplace makeover of new office equipment, furniture and supplies, and business consulting services for one year.
In addition to stimulating speakers, workshop sessions and panel discussions, the MRBES will provide a showcase for Black-owned businesses via the Biz Expo. The Biz Expo runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily at the hotel's John Q. Hammons Convention Center. The Biz Expo is free and open to the public.
The 2005 MRBES presenting sponsor is Daimler Chrysler. Other sponsors include American Family Insurance, JP Morgan Chase, Washington Mutual Bank, Qwest Communications, the City of Aurora, the City of Denver, the Colorado Black Chamber of Commerce, and several collaborative partners including the African American Leadership Institute, the Black United Fund of Colorado, Microbusiness Development Corporation and many others.
